Checked Baggage Allowance
Tigerair does not offer any free allowance on checked baggage with its Basic fare. There is also a Luggage Upsize™ option, which is made available to passengers who can carry a single 20kg bag per adult traveling. Customers may also make arrangements for additional checked bags by contacting the call center at least 4 hours before departure. If not pre-arranged, excess bags may be purchased at the airport on departure, however, will only be available in the 15 kg tier and at prevailing airport prices.
Any weight over the selected Luggage Upsize is considered excess baggage and will be charged by the kilogram, at prevailing rates. Tigerair also reserves the right not to accept any single bag weighing over 30 kg for safety reasons.
Sporting Equipment and Musical Instruments
Tigerair permits sporting equipment to be carried as checked baggage upon availability. This includes carrying skis, surfboards, or bicycles but only according to specific packing requirements and weight. The maximum weight for all sporting equipment is 30 kg. Any extra weight will incur additional charges.
Sporting equipment baggage must be properly secured to travel undamaged. Equipment must meet the maximum length of 2 m (78 in.) to be accepted as checked baggage. Some items, such as firearms, will incur a handling fee.
Musical Instruments
Musıcal instruments are permitted in cabin bags; they are included in the cabin luggage allowance if they have the same or less dimensions than 30 cm x 117 cm x 38 cm or 11.8 in. x 46 in. x 15 in. There are guitars within soft cases, violins, flutes, and trumpets. Any instrument that has more than the above or mentioned dimension can be checked as part of the hold luggage.
Passengers should pack musical instruments in hard cases to protect against damage on journeys. Instruments carried as cabin baggage are accepted at the passenger’s own risk. Irregularly sized instruments may also be carried in the cabin, subject to crew discretion dependent on available space.
All this taken in one nutshell, Tigerair clearly communicates cabin and check-in baggage quantities while offering sporting equipment and musical instruments within its limits. It encourages travelers to be aware of these rules for smooth travel.
